The Large Platter is one of the four items that launched Anchor Hocking’s Early American Prescut line in its Anchorglass 1960-61 Catalog. The platter is listed in the catalog as “790 – 13 1/2″ Serving Plate”. Today it’s more often referred to as a platter.
Anchor Hocking included the Large Platter in many sets, including the Cake Plate, Console Set, Drink Set, Entertainment Group, Entertainment Set, Lazy Susan, and Salad Set. It fits the Cake Stand perfectly to create a footed Cake Plate. Just set it on top of the smooth end of the Cake Stand and rotate it a bit until it locks into place.
This is a big hefty platter, perfect for ham, turkey, roast and potatoes, cake, pie, or anything else you might want to serve on it. I’ve seen some people use them as chargers with a Snack Plate on top.
Anchor Hocking also made divided versions of this platter. The 5-part and 7-part platters were put into production, although the 7-part are more commonly found in Australia. Only a prototype appears to have been made of the Large Swirl Platter.
