Easily and often mistaken for Early American Prescut, this large serving bowl was actually made in Pasari, Indonesia. If you look closely at the inside bottom of the bowl, above and below the center star you’ll see the raised letters “Pasari” and “Indonesia”.
All glass imported into the US must be marked in some way (stamped, labeled, engraved) from the country from which it came. It is unknown whether Anchor Hocking commissioned the Pasari, Indonesia plant to produce this glass for them – maybe to help with high demand for a holiday season or during a plant shutdown.
While this bowl looks almost identical to the EAPC Large Serving Bowl, it feels clunkier and actually is heavier. The two I have are slightly smaller in diameter than my USA-made bowls (10.5″ vs 10.75″). My Pasari bowls weigh 1656 and 1668 grams, whereas my USA-made bowls’ weights vary between 1481 and 1534 grams. Take this with a grain of salt, however, as all EAPC pieces can vary a bit in size, so I would expect pieces made in Pasari to vary a bit, too. But it’s still a noticeable difference.
My Pasari bowls also don’t quite settle securely onto any of my Cake Stands. Overall, when I look at them closely I can see their shape isn’t quite as crisp and clean as the USA-made bowls. Still, a very interesting find and addition to your EAPC collection if you can acquire one.
